Christened as Adam’s bridge, now, science proves a man-made bridge to exist connecting Rameswaram (a town in the state of Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka.
Adam's Bridge (Tamil: Rāmar pālam) a chain of limestone shoals, between the islands of Rameswaram, off the southeastern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar, near northwestern Sri Lanka. Geological evidence indicates that this bridge is a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka.
The bridge is 30 miles (48 km) long and separates the Gulf of Mannar (southwest) from the Palk Strait (northeast). Some of the sandbanks are dry and the sea in the area is very shallow, being only 3 ft to 30 ft (1 m to 10 m) deep in places, which hinders navigation. It was reportedly passable on foot up to the 15th century until storms deepened the channel: temple records seem to say that Rama’s Bridge was complete above sea level until it broke in a cyclone in 1480 AD.The photographs received from the satellites approve the short story in the great Indian epic Ramayana. The epic reads,” Lord Rama constructed the bridge with the help of Vanaras(the monkey brigade) to cross the ocean to reach Lanka. Viswakarma’s son Nala (Divine architect) had guided the construction of the bridge.
Modern man believes in experimental proofs rather than the simple sacred words of our ancestors. This discovery has embraced the faith and trust that fogies have in their epics and also grabbed the attention of modern man.
Now, as Indians we all must be proud to be the descendants of such beautiful skilled sculptors.
But BEWARE!
The great engineering feats that escorted the world’s attention seem to be pushed into oblivion. The present Indian rulers appear to be carrying an idea of demolishing the bridge as it is hindering the ships and renders in longer voyages through the Indian Ocean. The parochial rulers must be enlightened of the fact that, it is not only the time constraint but also the Indian sentiments that must be reckoned with if such a drastic decision is to be made.
